Editor's Letter: Using Racially-Charged Language To Celebrate Black Women Isn't A Compliment

My good friend and editor of Black Ballad Jendella Benson said on social media you have one good day and then you can have a really challenging day, but that really is the peaks and valleys of life. I don’t think I’m word for word perfect on what she said on Instagram, but I’m sure you get my drift. Just over the weekend, I had that experience. On Friday I had a day that was unforgettable for all the right reasons and on Saturday I had a morning that will stay etched in my memory forever, but for reasons I would rather forget.

Highs and lows of life are inevitable - one minute you are up and the next you are down. It happens in your relationships, your career, the walk of faith you choose and whatever area of life you feel focused on. I guess the reason why I felt that I wanted to go down that route this week was because of the relationship and feelings I’ve experienced towards my old university in the space of seven days.
