The Braided Noughties Styles That Are Making A Welcome Comeback

Growing up I took immense pride in the versatility of my natural hair, whether it was in box braids with burnt ends, all back cornrows, or pick and drop. There was no denying the cultural impact that popular Black hairstyles had on me and what looks ultimately defined this period.

From braided bobs to deep side part swoop ponytails, if you’re a Black girl there’s no way you hadn’t worn one of these hairstyles during your pre-teen years.

As I got older, and naturally with time, the appeal of these hairstyles started to die down. With the arrival of leave outs and quick weaves, the desirability of these classic hairstyles went out of style. Braids became the go-to “exam season hairstyle” and there have been many debates on Twitter on whether having braids is “appropriate” for big celebrations.

However, this summer there was a boom in more noughties hairstyles being re-initiated into the Black Girl Hair Bible during a popular era of wigs and frontals.
